The innovation practice across the Mena region

The first edition of the project was a 5-month project that started in November 2021. A consortium of 4 partners from different countries: Futures Islands (Tunisia), Sawaed19 (Palestine), Arab youth sustainable development network (Yemen) and Arab youth climate movement (Qatar), joined forces and consolidated their expertise to create this innovation pathway.

Behind the project

This project aims to encourage the democratization of knowledge sharing, form new collaborations, and strengthen systems thinking that facilitates solving emerging problems in a sustainable manner through the practice of innovation. Subsequently, this digital project seeks to provide a space for youth to share their feedback on innovation practices in the MENA region, highlight the importance of innovation practices, and seek to equip them with the appropriate tools and approaches to shape a better future. In particular, the project aims to:

Organize and design 2 days based on the needs of the target (non-profit sector, academia, public sector, and private sector) to address the practice of innovation in the MENA region for a sustainable future.
Facilitate networking and connect local and international experts in the field of innovation management.
Unlearn and relearn from failed stories/projects.

Within the framework of the project “Strengthening national, regional and local capacities for coordination, prevention and response to the epidemiological and environmental impact of Covid19, We worked in partnership with the UNDP to identify four solutions that contributed to the crisis response by taking into consideration environmental issues.

Future Islands and our partners have created a “prototyping for green solutions” program in which we have accompanied the carriers of 4 solutions to concretize their projects and produce their prototypes through:

Training cycle; capacity building for project leaders and their teams so that they can acquire specific skills such as market research, negotiation techniques, etc.
Bootcamps: intensive workshops with coaches and trainers to prepare them to better present their projects and innovative ideas. At the end of each bootcamp, participants will pitch their projects to a jury.
A prototyping period: participants will be on a mission to create their prototypes in order to go from an idea to a streamlined and structured project
Personalized support: a team is available to innovators to meet their specific and emerging needs (technical support, financial support, etc.)

CCD4government helps public institutions in the innovation and digitalization journey based on open, iterative and user-centered innovation, co-creation and sharing of skills.

CCD 4 Government works on different axes, including an incubation program designed to support project leaders proposing digital transformation solutions for governments and the public sector. It also includes a capacity building program for public institutions, aimed at helping them to appropriate the tools of digital transformation, as well as a hackathon for public institutions, with the aim of stimulating the emergence of innovative ideas. Finally, CCD 4 Government also encourages the sharing of experiences and peer-to-peer learning, in order to foster collaboration between public sector actors.

The virtual incubation program

Future Islands launches its virtual incubation program for private universities. This program will allow students to develop their startup ideas using Future Islands’ tools and resources. Students will also have access to high-level mentorship to help them grow their business. The launch of the Virtual Incubator Program for private universities is another way Future Islands is supporting business creation by encouraging students to develop their ideas. Future Islands believes that this program will allow students to enjoy the benefits of the physical incubation program, while being able to work on their project remotely. . Our program also includes access to our network of experienced mentors and trainers, who can provide valuable advice and support to students on their journey.

As part of a more comprehensive and complete mission to democratize innovative concepts, Future Islands launches the innovative “”غدوة LAB”” with this first workshop. Using “scenario planning”, a set of narratives to develop constructive thinking about the future. Prospecting methods help us explore and make sense of a range of future possibilities. They allow participants to co-create possible futures with a grain of creativity and forward thinking.
